Description
Community-Focused Light with Historical Sensitivity
The Branch Library Improvement Program (BLIP) aimed to modernize public libraries while honoring their historic character and unique community role. For each site, our lighting design began with the user in mind—whether a child discovering books, a senior seeking quiet refuge, or a student needing focus.
We introduced layered lighting to support flexible programming, with daylight-enhancing strategies and low-glare luminaires tuned for visual comfort. Heritage features were revealed through accent lighting, while new interventions were softened with warm, diffuse glows that preserve spatial dignity.
Safety, accessibility, and emotional tone guided our choices—creating public spaces that are not only functional but uplifting.
